Halloween
1978
This, my friends….this is a horror classic. Pure perfection in it's entirety.
Halloween introduces Michael Myers, a quiet 6 year old, who after killing his sister and spending 15 years in a mental home, returns to his home town of Haddonfield, Illinois to continue his plan of murder. However, Michael has one enemy: Dr. Sam Loomis, Michael's doctor.
When Loomis hears about Michael's returning home, he immediately goes to Haddonfield to try and stop the terror in which faces this quaint little town.
This film marks the film debut of Jamie Lee Curtis, as Laurie Strode, a teenager who happens to be babysitting the night Michael comes home.
What can be said about a film that started a whole genre of copy-cat horror flicks, where a masked maniac goes around slashing people. I give this film * * * * * out of 5. A wonderful film.
Halloween 2
1981
Picking up directly where the last one left off, we find Michael attacking people, this time more gruesomely and more violent, at a hospital, where Laurie Strode is staying at. His main concern is to get to Laurie, but Laurie fights, along with Dr. Loomis in a very suspenseful ending.
Though some think of this one as "Oh, no…the sequel," it's almost as credible as the first one, being the first real good sequel to a horror film. I give it * * * * out of 5.
HALLOWEEN 3: Season of the Witch
1982;
Straying from the first two's plot, Halloween 3 provides good acting, with a fairly well-written script.
In Halloween 3, a mask manufacturer plans to kill millions of kids with the masks they wear for trick-or-treat. It seems like an odd storyline, and it is, but the film itself was sort of well done like I said earlier. And even though it's known as the worst film in the series, people fail to see how good the film actually is.
Aside from the fact that this sequel completely ignores the first two, it's actually pretty good. I give it * * * ˝ out of 5.
HALLOWEEN 4 The Return Of Michael Myers
1988;
If there was one film that I could slide in the VCR, hit play, and go to sleep by, it would be this one. My number one choice for worst film of all time.
Halloween 4 returns the series back to it's intended storyline, where Michael Myers goes around slashing as many people as he can. But, after being in a coma for a few years, you get a little rusty. So, this film takes us through Myers regaining his urge to kill again.
The film is horrible. Just plain horrible. Now don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Halloween fan. Of every movie but this one. Followed by yet another bore, The Revenge of Michael Myers. I give this film * out of 5.
HALLOWEEN 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers
1989;
Completely and utterly boring is how this fourth sequel to Halloween can be described.
This time, Michael's niece has a telepathic bond between her and her uncle, so she knows when and where he's going to strike next.
There is very little to say about this disappointing film. It's dull, boring, horribly scripted, poorly acted, probably number 2 on my all-time worst list. I give it * * out of 5.
HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS
1995;
Known as one of the worst Halloween films of the series, The Curse of Michael Myers is actually an ok film. The problem with it is, that it doesn't follow the storyline of any of the other films, except for the very first one, returning two of the little kids Laurie Babysat the night The Boggieman came.
In Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers, Myers returns to Haddonfield, only this time, he wants his baby. See, in the fourth and fifth one they introduce Myer's niece. And sometime in between the 5th 6th film, Myers and his niece had a child. Ofcourse, the niece hides the child (Steven) away from Michael because of his murderous ways. Tsk, tsk, tsk, always looking for trouble, these characters in the series. Tsk tsk.
But anyway, when Myers returns to Haddonfield, he goes on yet again another rampage (surprise, surprise) and pretty much…kills people left and right.
Although hated by critic, and even some fans of the series, this fifth installment unfortunately leaves a wide open ending for another sequel. But, nonetheless, it's a good film. I give it * * * ˝ out of 5.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
1998;
20 Years ago in 1978, when John Carpenter introduced the character Michael Myers, he had absolutely no idea that the Halloween franchise would go this far…a 20th Anniversary Sequel.
Halloween H20, despite the fact that it disregards Halloween 6, returns Jamie Lee Curtis' character Laurie Strode, aged 20 years after the what happened with Michael Myers, as a school teacher in a private school in Southern California. Her son, John, is turning 18, which is the same age Laurie was when Myers first came around. Slowly she begins to think that Michael is going to try and kill her son. And When he does come to get him, she has to face him in a fight to the finish.
It's actually a pretty interesting film, however some say it's too short of a film. I didn't see that in it. A very nice change from the previous two. H20 was a fine sequel, so I gave it * * * * out of 5 stars.
